Definition of buffalo
buffalo
- Buffalo was originally used as a derogatory term for a female and means fat, ugly etc (I suppose because that's what Buffalos look like). However, it was later used to describe a stupid person (male or female). I remember this slang first cropping up when I was about 15 (1993) but know from my little brother that it is still used for both meanings. I have also been told by a friend that it is used in the north of England and recently heard comedian Jack Dee used the phrase to describe a childhood sweetheart.
She's (He's) a right Buffalo.
