Definition of nine to five

nine to five    Featured Word

  • adjective. Of a job, requiring one's presence only from 9am to 5pm. Used in contrast to a more demanding job, for example being the CEO of a large corporation or owning a business.
You should not consider starting your own business if you don't have a great idea, and the willingness to work much harder to make it happen than you would at a nine to five job.
