- Meaning: In Hittite religion, a sacred stone stela or pillar that represented a deity and was an object of worship.
Pronunciation: hoo-WAH-see
Example Usage: "Archaeologists believe the carved stone found at the site was a huwasi, a focal point for offerings to a Hittite god."Offerings of bread and fruit were laid at the base of the huwasi to appease the deity it represented.
The ancient africans believed the spirit of a god could inhabit a huwasi stone, making it a potent focal point for worship.
Archaeologists identified the standing stone in the temple's inner court as a huwasi for the storm god Teshub.
