eighty-one

  • A crash. Used in bobsled and luge. Originally a bobsledding term, probably originated at the Mt. Van Hoevenberg bobrun in Lake Placid, New York, during the 1970s. The etymology is unknown.
    I had an eighty-one on the first S-curve.

  • In mountain biking, when the rider is thrown forward over the handlebars as the result of a collision.
    I did an endo on that last run.

Hermanator

  • In downhill skiing, a high-speed crash. Derived from the nickname of Austrian skier Herman Maier, referring to his spectacular wipe-out in the Olympic downhill at Nagano, Japan.
    Man, I pulled a hermanator on that double black diamond.
