- Shorty was used back in the late 60's by pimps in Chicago to indicate their "broads" on the street. The pimps were called "Slims"; the hookers, "Shorties". Always originally used as a term for a girl.
If I was on the avenue and wanted the attention of a broad, then I'd whistle and bark, "say shorty, let me holla at ya".
