The exact origin of this phrase is unknown; though it could have originated in the brutal massacre which occurred in Oklahoma called the Going Snake Massacre. Typically found in usage in U.S. Military circles, the phrase has become more common in the English vernacular. The phrase typically carries the meaning of attacking or accosting a person in an extremely violent and unrestrained manner with no thought about consequences. Also, usage may relate to one's approach to a situation or environment. This phrase is a more extreme variation within the family of other colloquialisms such as "freaking out" or "losing it".
