  • Saying contradictory things. It may be saying one thing to one person and the opposite thing to another, but it can also refer to saying contradictory things to the same person so that the answer provided is vague or ambiguous. It is essentially synonymous with doublespeak or doubletalk and may result from doublethink.

    Example:

    Question: Do I have purchase the potato chips in order to enter the manufacturer's contest?

    Answer: No.

    Question: How can I find out the rules of the contest and how to enter?

    Answer: The details can be found on the inside of the package.
