  • Short for "what for" or "why" (from the "Li'l Abner" comic strip (1934 - 1977); popularly used in the 1950s and 1960s. Ex.: "Wuffo you want to hit me with that club?"

  • an unknowledgeable observer who hangs around a hang gliding launching or landing area asking many questions; slang used by hangliders that wanna be skydivers.
    I almost mowed over three wuffos with my left wingtip on landing.

  • senior leaders in tough positions; must be stronger, better and more a leader than their job requires. Compare to "rise above all".
    The senator was unconcerned about personal insults, because he knew that you have to be bigger than your job.
