  • "can't believe it" or "declare". I heard the term used when I was growing up in the context of declaring disbelief that something was happening or took place, i.e. "I swani! Look at how that tree is growing?" or you would say something like, "Did you hear about Aunt Laura and her new boy friend eloping to South Carolina?" and the response would be, "I swani!" Also "I swan" in some parts of the U.S.
