G

Generality Language-Origin Rule

noun

  • An unwritten rule (until now) that words that are intended to have a universal or general meaning are to originate from Latin or Greek, and words that have are intended to have a subglobal, provincial, local, sublocal or specific meaning are to originate from the native language or way of communication of that such subglobality, province, locality, sublocality or the specific area in which the word came from.

This was a norm among many scientific communities before the Internet existed, and because many scientists came from different languages, they used Latin to talk about transnational and or universal concepts and to communicate outside of language barriers in general.
