Definition of an anthrax ward

anthrax ward

  • any place where more than one person appears to have a nasty cough.

Origin: so named because patients in hospitals are grouped in "wards" and one symptom of respiratory anthrax (fatal) is a nasty cough.
Man, this office is the anthrax ward today.
