Denoting an individual who excessively uses the phrase "I'm gonna need a bigger boat" or "We're gonna need a bigger boat" as a metaphor for every situation that denotes overwhelming odds, or an overwhelming scenario.

This is in reference to the 1975 blockbuster film 'JAWS' and the name of the boat 'ORCA' which is confronted by a 25 foot shark. Typically a fan of the film and one who admires the boat can be called an Orc.

Hey, I noticed Ted keeps saying "We're gonna need a bigger boat" every time we lose a game. Ted must be an Orc.

swani or swany

verb

  • "can't believe it" or "declare". I heard the term used when I was growing up in the context of declaring disbelief that something was happening or took place, i.e. "I swani! Look at how that tree is growing?" or you would say something like, "Did you hear about Aunt Laura and her new boy friend eloping to South Carolina?" and the response would be, "I swani!" Also "I swan" in some parts of the U.S.
