grep

verb - ambitransitive

  • in a non-computing context, to search.
    Could you grep the menu for something vegan while I go to the bathroom?

  • in a computing context, to search "manually" - i.e. by looking rather than using a computer program specifically intended for searching.
    I like GUIs because I can grep them visually for what I'm looking for.
