  • Completely out of adjustment, in a state of disarray or malfunction.
    Whenever Windows gets totally discombooberated, you might as well just reboot the system and hope for the best.

  • A present or former convict. Derivation: Prisoners "on the yard" typically don't have a lot to do, so they spend a lot of time standing around in little groups, working out their social issues. Someone was reminded of chickens in the farmyard, perhaps.
    That place employs so many yardbirds, it's like little Attica.
