epizootics of the blowhole    Featured Word

noun

  1. a metaphorical disease where one speaks at length about something one knows nothing about. In other words, running off at the mouth without a clue. Submitter John Voight knows the term existed in deep south (United States) during the 1940's and 1950's as his dad used it frequently. He notes that his dad may have picked it up in World War II.
All that meaningless spew coming out of his mouth is just a bad case of epizootics of the blowhole.

Omega Mu    Featured Word

noun

  1. a fictitious sorority with overweight members.
Uh, dude... I think she's a member of Omega Mu.
Why were you talking to that Omega Mu?

Submitted by Kevin, Cedar Rapids, IA, USA, Nov 29 2001.

origin

  1. "omega" is similar to "mega," which means "very" in the vernacular. "Mu" is pronounced like "moo," which in the United States is the sound cows make. The term "cow" is used to refer to an overweight person. On US college campuses, people are sometimes referred to as the sorority or fraternity they are a member of, rather than saying "member of (organization)" as the example sentences show.
