a feature of a computer program or electronic device that is only accessible via a set of commands, clicks, and/or keystrokes that aren't listed in the official documentation.

Speculation about the origin of the term includes the custom of the Easter Egg hunt observed in the U.S. and many parts of Europe, as well Faberge' eggs containing hidden objects.
