Definition of spondulics

spondulics

  • a term for money, among gangsters and jazzy people, from the first half of the 20th century. I was reminded of it when James Whitmore (a private dick) used it in the movie "Mrs. O'Malley and Mr. Malone" (1951).

  • Could this word have originated from the south american chimu people of chamor Peru who valued above Gold and Silver the spondylus shell
