big smoke

  • Nearest big city. It's normally used by those living in small towns or suburbs. I've heard it used a lot in southern Ontario to refer to Toronto. I also heard it used in an Australian or New Zealand movie, so maybe it's a Commonwealth country thing.
    Are you going to the Big Smoke this weekend?
