• Nickname for a member of the Murphy tribe, e.g. Spud Murphy, a member of an elite cohort of Irish society, a term of honour, often used by non-Irish incorrectly as an insult, in particular by UK subjects of the Crown due to anti-Irish racism endemic in the colonial conquest of Ireland.
