  • A term invented in 2003 by American columnist Dan Savage to disparage US Senator Rick Santorum due to his statements about homosexuality. Savage defines it as

    "that frothy mixture of lube and fecal matter that is sometimes the byproduct of anal sex."

  • dramatic and emotional; cliche; often related to plots in movies and songs -- planned sadness followed by resolve; ex. most movies from the 1980s.
    It was a sappy movie from the 1980s.

  • When I coined the term 40+ years ago, it was meant to mean acidic sarcasm, or sarcasm that goes beyond the merely intellectual attack to a more visceral one that is defined by the difference and the level of attack.
