  • an item whose true name is unknown. Sometimes preceded by a word that describes the item.
    Hand me that fastener thingy.

  • thing. "Thingy" is used in cases where you are not sure what the proper name for something really is, or in cases where you do not want to use the real name. Sometimes "thingy" is used just to be humorous.
    Where should that connector thingy be plugged in on the box?
