software rot

noun - uncountable

  • a hypothetical affliction that causes programs to run more poorly over time. Software doesn't actually rot, rather a program's assumptions may become out of date, newer operating systems may not function in exactly the same way, etc.

splash screen

noun

  • a window that appears when a computer program is started, but before its main interface is displayed.
This tool has this annoying splash screen that you have to stare at for 10 seconds before you can actually use it.
