  • to overcome, to conquer.
    Dude, I totally tanked that quantum mechanics test.
    If used reflexively, may take on opposite meaning, as in:
    Dude, that quantum mechanics test has me so tanked.

  • Something that is broken, a person who is in a hopeless situation. When used to describe a person there are connotations of an unfair situation. Originated in hacker/tech culture to describe a piece of hardware that was broken.

  • a metaphorical area that contains the underlying implementation of something - e.g. a piece of hardware, a piece of software, an idea, etc.

    To understand how it really works we need to look under the hood.
