  • Heard in New Zealand and the UK (and Australia?), but is becoming an increasingly global word. Now often used by Internet posters in closings, to sound worldly and friendly, though they may never actually use it while speaking.

  • Usually a British term or phrase. A friendly good-bye. Can be a closing to a conversation or visit.
    I'm off, cheers!

cheese and crackers got all muddy

interjection

origin

  • Possibly from a joke, such as the following.

A mother sent her child to get some milk, crackers and cheese at the store. It was raining. On the way home, the grocery bag broke and everything fell on the road. Frustrated, the child yelled, "Jesus Christ God Almighty!" The mom stepped out the door and asked, "What did you just say?" The quick thinking child responded, "Cheese and crackers got all muddy."
