  • Often used in Texas and parts of the South as a greeting originated from "How do you do?" shortened to "how do you?" and said rapidly with the words running together with a Southern accent or a twang resulting in "Howdy?" It is often followed by "How are you?" or some other pleasantry which is often redundant.
