  • in computing, of a data transformation, one which does not retain all of the data.

    Used commonly in image, audio, and video compression, in which knowledge of the human visual/auditory systems are used to eliminate imperceptible or barely perceptible information.

lost in the sauce

  • It means clueless of what is going on in one's surroundings. Also if a person is talking to another and the person listening doesn't know what is going on they are consequently "lost in the sauce."
    I don't have a clue what's going on. You are lost in the sauce.
