McGyverism

noun

  • A novel solution to a difficult problem which would be ingenious if not for the fact that it has a snowball's chance in hell of succeeding.

    After hero of American TV series McGyver, who regularly solved impossible problems by applying novel scientific principles. He usually underestimated the effectiveness of his solutions by many orders of magnitude, but miraculously always succeeded.
