plug and chug

  • anything rote and extremely repetitive which doesn't require any thinking. (particularly involving math problems). It refers to inserting one variable "x" (the plug) into an equation and get a result "y" (the chug). My high school math teacher used this phase all the time to refer to algebra problems that were ridiculously easy - if you knew the equation to solve it.
My algebra assignment yesterday was so plug and chug.
Students go for plug and chug work and bunk the relatively tough lessons.
