  • Etymology: From the original Star Trek series, a generic term for any of the nondescript crewmen that accompanied other main characters down to the surface of an unknown planets, invariably destined to be killed by the aliens. For example, when Spock, McCoy, Scottie, and another fourth crewmen were beamed down, someone would always get killed off. True to the casting of the permanent staff, the only thing that would be heard over the radio would, "Captain, the aliens are hostile and they've killed Yeoman Johnson.")
