- A folk etymology exists for the "shit-as-feces" definition.
Allegedly, in the shipping trade a long time ago, ships carrying manure floated higher in the water due to the methane released by the manure. "SHIT" was painted on the side of these ships, meaning "Ship High In Transit".- See more words with the same meaning: acronyms (list of).
