• One submitter felt that the likely source of the definition was being so drunk that one falls on the ground, and perhaps there is dog feces on that ground.

• According to one submitter's great-grandfather, this term was used in the American Old West. When a bar patron would get overly drunk and unruly, they would be tossed through the swinging doors into the street. Sometimes said bar patron would land where the horses were tied, their face landing in horse shit.
