nuttso

  • It's when someone goes so nuts that a stronger word has to be used to describe their behavior. Also means crazy, or off the wall/off his rocker. It's also possible for a person to go nuttso on someone (freak out on them).

Omega Mu    Featured Word

noun

origin

  • "omega" is similar to "mega," which means "very" in the vernacular. "Mu" is pronounced like "moo," which in the United States is the sound cows make. The term "cow" is used to refer to an overweight person. On US college campuses, people are sometimes referred to as the sorority or fraternity they are a member of, rather than saying "member of (organization)" as the example sentences show.

out of the box    Featured Word

adjective

  • crazy, irrational. Note: theorized that the term is a vague allusion to the "jack-in-the-box" toys, a box containing a head mounted on a spring that would pop open after a crank had been turned. The head would then bounce around. The unpredictable motion of the toy could be likened to someone who is "out of the box."
I don't know what her problem is, but she's completely out of the box!

by John Smith, Phoenix, AZ, USA, Jun 21 1997  (Edit definition)

  • corporate-speak for "in a novel way." Typically used to refer to solving a problem or task. Often used with the verb "think." Has become cliche. Also outside (of) the box.
We've got to think out of the box on this one.

notes

  • Another possible etymology for the "displeasing" meaning is the German expression "toten Hosen." Literally "dead pants", the expression means "impotent" or "nothing going on".
