  • used to convey shock or surprise when describing actions. Roughly translates to "actually", in the colloquial sense of "actually" that conveys surprise about an action. (As in, for example, "I can't believe you actually did that!")

    Expression from the time before chemical pregnancy test kits. Rabbits were injected with urine and the rabbit ovaries examined after a few days.

    ALL rabbits tested died, but the expression stuck
