origin
- This term is from the 1991 Sega Genesis release of an arcade game called "Zero Wing." The introduction in the game has a very poor translation of Japanese to English. It shows the bridge of a space ship in chaos as the enemy appears and says, "How are you gentlemen!! All your base are belong to us."
In 2001, this poor translation spread virally through the Internet, resulting in many images of doctored photographs, each showing a street sign, store front, package label, etc. manipulated to read "All your base are belong to us."
The original has been generalized to "All your 'X' are belong to us", to imply that the thing 'X' will be annihilated. For example:I had to sign a non-compete clause when I took the job. They basically told me, "All your future work are belong to us."
