To resolve Google's penalty against this site (still active after 441 days) I've been forced to censor all 5,300 citations of slang use.   • A folk etymology exists for the "shit-as-feces" definition.

    Allegedly, in the shipping trade a long time ago, ships carrying manure floated higher in the water due to the methane released by the manure. "SHIT" was painted on the side of these ships, meaning "Ship High In Transit".
